Toni Powell Killed, Mary Robinson Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on SH 64 in Van Zandt County

Toni Powell Killed and Mary Robinson Injured in Van Zandt County Two-Vehicle Crash on SH 64 

Van Zandt County, Texas (January 11, 2022) – A woman was killed and another was injured Monday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Van Zandt County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 4:15 p.m., January 10, on State Highway 64, eight miles east of Ben Wheeler.

DPS said a Mitsubishi Mirage was heading westbound on the highway when it stopped for a school bus ahead that was unloading students.

A Chevrolet Trax SUV then struck the stopped Mitsubishi.

The Mitsubishi driver, Toni L. Powell, 42, of Fruitvale was killed in the crash.

The Chevrolet driver, Mary L. Robinson, 71, of Canton, claimed the sun was causing her to have limited visibility and failed to control her speed. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

No other details were provided.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
