Trooper Injured in Crash on Guadalupe and West 12th Streets in Austin; Eugenio Flores Olivares Jr. Charged

Trooper Injured in Austin Multi-Vehicle Crash at Guadalupe and West 12th Streets; Eugenio Flores Olivares Jr. Charged

Austin, Texas (February 16, 2020) – A trooper was injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Thursday in downtown Austin, according to officials.

The crash occurred on Thursday, February 13, at the intersection of Guadalupe and West 12th streets.

Authorities said Eugenio Flores Olivares Jr., 46, was driving when he intentionally hit three DPS cars, which were parked in the 1200 block of Colorado Street. He then crashed into a fourth DPS car with a trooper inside at the intersection.

Olivares said he struck the fourth DPS car on purpose because he needed help and wanted to get the trooper’s attention.

The trooper in the fourth car sustained injuries in the crash.

Olivares was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a public servant, a first-degree felony, and criminal mischief, a third-degree felony. He is being held at the Travis County Correctional Complex with bail set at $10,000 for criminal mischief and $50,000.

The crash remains under investigation.
