Two Killed in Leander Motorcycle Accident on US 183; Allan Justin Gaytan Arrested

Leander, Texas (September 9, 2020) – Two people were killed in a hit-and-run crash early Wednesday morning in Leander, according to police.

The fatal crash occurred around 12:20 a.m., on U.S. 183 just north of Bryson Ridge Trail.

Police said a motorcycle was heading northbound on the highway when it was hit by a BMW sedan that had run a red light.

Witnesses said the motorcycle was making a U-turn when it was hit by the sedan.

Two people in the motorcycle, a man in his 40s and a 17-year-old male, were killed in the crash.

The sedan driver left his car at a nearby convenience store parking lot after the crash and fled the scene on foot. He was later found and was taken to the hospital for treatment. He has been identified as 21-year-old Allan Justin Gaytan.

The crash closed all southbound lanes of the U.S. 183A toll road.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Most motorcycle crashes are caused by negligent drivers who don’t keep a proper lookout or fail to yield the right-of-way. Because motorcyclists are vulnerable, their injuries are usually severe, often suffering from road rash, broken bones, brain injuries, amputations, or spinal cord injuries. In some cases, the accident results in death.
