Cherokee County, Texas (September 22, 2020) – One person was killed, and two others were critically injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday night in Cherokee County, according to DPS.

According to a preliminary investigation, Uriel Rangel, 25, of Jacksonville, was driving a 2008 Chrysler 300 westbound when he rear-ended a 2011 Audi A5 that had slowed to turn into a private drive.

The force of the impact caused the Audi to hit a power pole and a structure before coming to a final rest in a field.

Rangel was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers, Jaden Portillo, 18, and Daniel Cruz, 32, both of Jacksonville, were taken to UT-Health in Tyler in critical conditions.

The Audi driver, Javier Corona, 33, of Jacksonville, was uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Uriel Rangel.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
