58-Year-Old Woman Killed in Houston Pedestrian Accident on North Freeway; Juan Rivera Arrested

Houston, Texas (August 28, 2021) – A 58-year-old woman was fatally hit by an intoxicated driver Wednesday night in Houston, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened around 10:55 p.m., August 25, in the 12000 block of North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45).

Police said the woman was driving a silver Toyota 4Runner southbound on the freeway when the vehicle stopped in a moving traffic lane (possibly due to a mechanical issue). The woman got out of her car and was struck by a white Chevrolet C10 pickup truck, driven by Juan Jesus Rivera, 20. The pickup also hit the Toyota.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.

Rivera was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.

The police are investigating the crash.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol.
