Xavier McKenzie Killed in Groom Collision on Interstate 40

Groom, Texas (May 7, 2022) – One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon near Groom, authorities said.

The deadly collision happened just before 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, on Interstate 40 at mile marker 119.

According to a report by the Texas Department of Public Safety, a tractor-trailer slammed into the back of a Volvo S 60 on the eastbound side of Interstate 40.

The impact caused both vehicles to catch fire.

The driver of the Volvo, Xavier McKenzie, 29, of Columbus, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver, Jerry Walker, 57, of Amarillo, was uninjured in the crash.

No further details about the collision were immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
