Zuniga Roque-Flores, Carlos Rico and Jesus Garcia Killed in Sanderson Crash on U.S. 90

Sanderson, Texas (August 16, 2022) – Four people were killed after a high-speed chase ended in a fiery head-on collision Friday near Sanderson, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The fatal crash took place on U.S. 90 just east of Sanderson, about 230 miles (370.15 kilometers) west of San Antonio on Friday, August 12.

The DPS said a DPS trooper was attempting to pull over a crew-cabbed Nissan Titan when the truck sped away and as a result, a chase ensued.

The chase ended after the Titan drifted into the oncoming lane of the two-lane highway and collided head-on with an oncoming Ford F-150.

As a result of the crash, both vehicles caught fire after the crash.

The driver of the Titan and his rear-seat male passenger died in the crash. The rear passenger was identified as Zuniga Roque-Flores, a 42-year-old man from Guanajuato, Mexico. The identity of the driver has not been released.

The front passenger in the Titan was airlifted to Odessa Medical Center in stable condition.

The driver and passenger of the Ford F-150 were also killed in the crash. They have been identified as Carlos Rico, 23, of Del Rio, Texas, and Jesus Garcia,19, of Del Rio, Texas.

A Kia Stinger was traveling southbound behind the Ford F-150 and suffered disabling damage due to debris from the crash. It also caught fire. The Stinger driver was uninjured in the crash.

No further details were provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
