Authorities say the Abilene Christian University football team was returning home to Abilene after a game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders at the Jones AT&T Stadium when the incident occurred.

Four People Injured in Lubbock Accident Involving Bus Carrying Abilene Christian University Football Team

Lubbock, TX – The authorities are investigating a traffic collision that left our people injured after a bus carrying the Abilene Christian University football team collided with two other vehicles in Lubbock Saturday night.

The accident happened at about  11:45 p.m. on August 31 at the intersection of Marsha Sharp Freeway and University Avenue.

According to Lubbock police, a preliminary investigation indicated that 19-year-old Parker Young was driving an SUV southbound on University Avenue when he disregarded traffic direction and collided with the bus. The impact pushed the bus into a truck that was in the left turn lane, attempting to turn North.

The bus driver, a player, and two coaches sustained minor injuries and were taken to the University Center in Lubbock, according to a statement by the ACU athletics department.

Authorities say the Abilene Christian University football team was returning home to Abilene after a game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders at the Jones AT&T Stadium when the incident occurred.

Lubbock police said Parker was arrested, charged with driving while intoxicated, and taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center.

The incident remains under investigation.
