Jasper County, TX — Two men were killed in a fiery head-on accident on State Highway 62 near Buna late Thursday night, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the accident happened at about 11:50 p.m. on September 19 on State Highway 62 near County Road 806.

DPS said a preliminary investigation revealed that James Duke, 20, of Vidor was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse southbound on State Highway 62 near County Road 806. At the same time, John Andel, 33,  of Buna was driving a 2017 Ford F-150 northbound on SH 62.

For some reason, Duke’s Chevrolet crossed over into the northbound lane and collided head-on with Andel’s Ford, igniting a fire.

Both Andel and Duke were pronounced dead at the scene.

No additional details regarding the accident were provided.

The incident is under investigation.
