Houston, TX – A 2-year-old child is dead and his grandmother is injured after they were struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Houston Thursday, according to the Houston Police Department.

The fatal pedestrian accident happened at about 10:35 a.m. on West Fuqua Street at Bathurst Drive

According to HPD, a 64-year-old woman was pushing a stroller, with her 2-year-old grandson inside – in the crosswalk at 3901 Fuqua Street when they were hit by a silver Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup truck turning left onto Fuqua Street from a stop sign on Bathurst Drive.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the woman and the toddler to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center where the doctors pronounced the child dead.

The identity of the deceased toddler is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The woman sustained minor injuries and is listed in stable condition, according to HPD.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 25-year-old man, remained at the scene. HPD said the driver did not show signs of intoxication and was questioned and released.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver failed to yield the right of way to the two pedestrians in the crosswalk.

No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is continuing.
