Merkel, TX – A Clyde High School student was killed in a collision between two vehicles in Merkel on Friday night, according to the Merkel Police Department.
The wreck took place on North 1st Street near Humphreys Village at about 7 p.m. on March 21.
According to the report, a sedan driven by a 16-year-old girl was traveling west on North 1st Street when it collided with an eastbound SUV that was making a left turn into Humphries Village.
The teenage driver was airlifted to a hospital with critical injuries and was said to be in stable condition.
A 16-year-old male passenger was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced deceased at 12:27 a.m. Saturday morning.
Two 14-year-old female passengers in the sedan were also taken to the hospital. One of them had life-threatening injuries while the other suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The adult and child in the SUV were not seriously injured.
Authorities reported that the four occupants of the sedan were Clyde High School students.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
