HPD said Laura Garcia was crouching down to tend to a small dog when she was hit by a white GMC Sierra pickup truck that had turned onto Kewalo Basin Lane.
Houston, TX – A woman, identified as 61-year-old Laura Garcia, is dead following a fatal pedestrian accident on Kewalo Basin Lane in Houston on Saturday morning.
Houston police said the incident occurred in the 11700 block of Kewalo Basin Lane at about 9:30 a.m. on April 12.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant A. Patterson said Laura Garcia was in the middle of the roadway near the intersection with Iron Springs Drive. Ms. Garcia was crouching down to tend to a small dog when she was hit by a white GMC Sierra pickup truck that had turned onto Kewalo Basin Lane.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 21-year-old man, stopped immediately after hitting Ms. Garcia. The man told investigators he did not see Garcia.
Garcia was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake, where she was pronounced dead.
The investigation is continuing.
