Two people killed and three injured in multi-vehicle collision at US 281 at FM 1017 in Edinburg
Edinburg, TX. – Two people were killed in a multi-vehicle collision early Monday morning in Edinburg.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident happened around 2:38 a.m. on US 281 south of FM 1017.
A man was driving a Chevrolet Malibu northbound in the southbound lane.
A white Chevrolet Colorado occupied by a female driver and a child was traveling southbound when the driver veered off the highway while avoiding a collision with the wrong-way driver.
A black Hyundai Tucson, occupied by a father and son, was traveling southbound on US 281 when it collided with the Malibu.
A short time later, a white Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling southbound on US 281 collided with the Tucson.
The driver of the Hyundai, 32-year-old Mark Anthony Alvarez of Pharr, died at the accident scene. 4-year-old John Andrew Escamilla was riding in the Hyundai and was taken to Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance, where he died from his injuries.
The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet Colorado were transported to Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance with unknown injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu was also transported to Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance in critical condition.
More details about the accident were not released.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
