Anna Ruth Bates Killed in Wood County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 37
Wood County, Texas (January 4, 2020) – A woman was killed, and several other people were injured in a head-on collision Thursday night in Wood County between Mineola and Quitman, according to the DPS.
The fatal crash took place around 8:45 p.m. on January 2, on SH-37.
DPS said Anna Ruth Bates, 46, of Quitman, was driving a 2015 Dodge Journey northbound on the highway around a curve while Kaylie Michelle Hasten, 24, of Mineola was driving a 2003 Toyota 4Runner southbound.
The Toyota crossed into the opposing lane and crashed head-on into the Dodge.
Bates was declared dead at the scene.
Hasten was taken to Christus Mother Francis Hospital in stable condition. A 1-year-old female passenger in the Toyota was taken to UT-Health –Tyler in stable condition.
A 6-year-old girl, a 4-year-old girl, and a 7-month-old boy, who were passengers in the Dodge, were taken to UT-Health – Tyler in stable condition.
All occupants were restrained at the time of the crash.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the family with funeral and other expenses.
The crash remains under investigation.
