One Injured, Officer Chance Rainer Arrested After Midland Two-Vehicle Crash at Illinois Avenue and Andrews Highway

Midland, Texas (April 30, 2020) – A driver was injured, and a Midland Police Department sergeant was arrested Wednesday morning following a suspected DWI crash in Midland, a local news source reported.

The crash was reported at about 3:00 a.m. April 29, at the intersection of Illinois Avenue and Andrews Highway.

Police said the crash involved two vehicles.

The driver at-fault, Sgt. Chance Rainer refused to get out of his vehicle or communicate with officers.

Rainer had been under administrative suspension for previous infractions.

The OPD SWAT and K9 unit eventually removed Rainer from his vehicle. He was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital for medical evaluation, treatment, and clearance for jail.

Police seized weapons and body armor that were in Rainer’s vehicle.

The other driver was released at the scene with minor injuries.

Rainer was arrested and was being held on charges of driving while intoxicated and abandoning or endangering a child. His bond was set at $500 for the DWI, which is a class B misdemeanor. The bond for the abandoning or endangering child charge, a state felony, has not been set.

According to reports, this is the second time this month that Rainer was arrested. He was arrested April 12 for public intoxication.

The crash remains under investigation.

We wish the injured victim a quick recovery.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol, however, is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct.

If you have been injured because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a  personal injury action against the drunk driver.
