Ronald Simpkins Killed in Car Crash on US 287 in Hedley

Ronald Simpkins Killed, Keith Williams Injured in Hedley Crash on US 287

Hedley, Texas (January 28, 2020) – One person was killed, and another was injured in a traffic accident Monday morning near Hedley, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened on Monday, January 27, on US 287.

DPS said a truck pulling two short trailers was traveling eastbound on the highway approaching a semi-truck which was stopped to turn left in a construction zone.

The truck was traveling too fast to stop and swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting the semi.

Ronald Simpkins, 43, of Childress, was driving a westbound when he steered right to avoid being hit by the truck but was hit on the driver’s side.

Simpkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

Keith Williams, 52, of Waco, who was a passenger in the truck, was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
