Royce Petty Killed in Motorcycle Accident on U.S. 380 in Denton County

Royce Petty ID’d as Man Killed in Denton County Motorcycle Crash on U.S. 380 at Ripy Road

Denton County, Texas (June 11, 2019) – Royce Petty Jr., 52, of Decatur, has been identified as the man who was killed Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle accident in Denton County, according to authorities.

The deadly accident happened shortly after 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 9 on U.S. 380 at Ripy Road.

Authorities said Petty was riding his motorcycle eastbound on U.S. 380 when he was hit by a Ford F-250 operated by Cecil Jones, 78, of Krum at Ripy Road.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the Ford was trying to cross U.S. 380 from Ripy Road when it hit the motorcycle. Jones allegedly failed to yield the right-of-way to Petty.

Petty was taken to a Denton hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
