Nora Chavez, Oscar Chavez, Adrian Leal Killed in Victoria County Collision on U.S. Highway 59

Victoria County, Texas (July 22, 2019) – The authorities have released the identities of the five victims killed when three vehicles collided on a highway in Victoria County Saturday morning, according to a DPS report.

The wreck, which took place on U.S. Highway 59, five miles northeast of Victoria, occurred at about 10:56 a.m. on Saturday, July 20.

DPS said a semi-truck pulling a flatbed trailer was heading north on Highway 59 when, for unknown reasons, it was rear-ended by a 2016 Ford van carrying 10 passengers.

The impact pushed the van across the grassy median and into the southbound lanes. The Ford van collided head-on with an oncoming 2015 Ford F-250.

The woman driving the van and four passengers, including two children, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victims have been identified as Nora Gabriela Chavez, 42, Oscar Chavez, 45, Adrian Rodriguez Leal, 47, a 6-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl. All victims were from Brownsville.

Five passengers in the van were taken to Houston and Victoria hospitals with unknown injuries.

The man who was driving the Ford pickup and his female passenger were taken to Citizens Medical Center in Victoria and were said to be in stable condition.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
