1 Injured in Houston Car Accident at Clay Road and Gessner Road

Houston, TX. – A Houston Police Department officer was injured in a crash involving a driver who ran a red light on Thursday morning in Houston.

According to the Houston Police Department, the accident happened at the intersection of Clay Road and Gessner Road at around 1:40 a.m.

A vehicle was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed on Gessner when it ran the red light at the intersection and struck a police patrol unit vehicle traveling westbound on Clay Road.

The patrol vehicle did not have emergency lights on.

The officer suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The driver of the second vehicle was detained and was evaluated for a possible DWI offence.

Additional information about the crash was not provided.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
