1 Killed in Houston Crash on Southwest Freeway near Chimney Rock Road

Houston, TX. - A passenger died in a rear-end crash on Sunday morning in Houston.

According to the Houston Police Department, the fatal crash occurred on the Southwest Freeway near the Chimney Rock Road exit at around 1:45 a.m.

A gray Ford Mustang driven by a 20-year-old woman struck the rear of an Acura that had pulled onto the shoulder after it lost its bumper.

The driver of the Acura had gone to retrieve the bumper when the rear-end collision occurred.

Medical personnel pronounced a passenger in the Acura dead at the scene.

The driver of the Acura was transported to Ben Taub Hospital with a punctured lung.

The 20-year-old driver of the Ford Mustang stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police.

More details on the crash were not immediately available.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
