Highway 385 Crash

Ector County, TX – A 13-day-old infant and a 17-year-old driver lost their lives in a two-vehicle collision Thursday afternoon in Ector County, according to the https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license

The deadly crash happened at approximately 3:50 p.m. on U.S. Highway 385 near the south service road of State Highway 158.

Authorities said a 2022 Dodge Ram 2500 was traveling northbound in the inside lane of Highway 385. At the same time, a southbound 2024 Chevrolet Malibu attempted to turn left onto the service road. Investigators said the Malibu failed to yield to oncoming traffic, causing the northbound Dodge Ram to collide with the passenger side of the sedan.

DPS officials said the 17-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Malibu and a 13-day-old baby boy, both from Mississippi, were ejected during the impact because they were not wearing seat belts. Both victims died at the scene. Another occupant inside the Malibu suffered serious injuries and was transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. The driver and passenger of the Dodge Ram, both residents of Andrews, sustained minor injuries. Authorities said both were wearing seat belts and were also taken to the hospital for treatment.

Investigators believe the collision occurred after the Chevrolet Malibu attempted to turn onto the service road without yielding the right of way to the northbound pickup truck.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash was reported and worked to assist the injured victims and secure the area.

The crash remains under investigation.
