3 Killed in Lubbock Car Crash on I-27 near 19th Street
Lubbock, TX. - Three people were killed in a fiery crash involving a wrong-way driver on Thursday evening in Lubbock.
According to the Lubbock Police Department, the collision occurred in the 6600 block of I-27 near 19th Street at around 7:25 p.m.
A man was driving a car southbound in the northbound lanes when he crashed into a northbound in passenger car.
The southbound vehicle continued southbound and collided head-on with a pickup truck and both vehicles burst into flames.
The man had two juvenile passengers on board. A three-year-old child was extracted from the burning vehicle.
The man, a two-year-old child and a passenger in the northbound passenger vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the northbound passenger car sustained serious injuries, while the 3-year-old child suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to UMC.
The pickup driver and her passenger were taken to Covenant Medical Center with serious injuries.
Police suspect alcohol and speed as factors in the crash.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
