13-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 20 in Kaufman County Sends Nine People to Hospitals
Kaufman County, TX – Nine people were transported to area hospitals following a multi-vehicle chain-reaction crash on Interstate 20 in Kaufman County on Friday, authorities said.
The collision occurred on westbound Interstate 20 near Farm-to-Market Road 2965, west of Terrell and near the community of Elmo.
DPS said up to13 vehicles, including four semi-trucks, were involved in the collision.
According to the Elmo Fire Department, a minor crash was reported at approximately 10:50 a.m. near mile markers 509 and 510. About five minutes later, a major chain-reaction collision occurred near mile marker 511, involving 13 vehicles, including four 18-wheelers.
Emergency crews evaluated 24 people at the scene. Authorities said nine individuals were transported to hospitals for treatment, although the extent of their injuries was not immediately released.
Due to the large number of vehicles involved, the Elmo Fire Department requested assistance from the College Mound and Wills Point fire departments.
Westbound Interstate 20 was temporarily closed while emergency personnel treated victims, investigated the crash, and cleared the wreckage.
No fatalities were reported. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
