Alma Rivas Killed in Amarillo Car Accident on I-27 near Georgia Street

Amarillo, TX. - 41-year-old Alma Yazmin Peregrino Rivas and an 8-year-old child were killed in a car crash on Monday evening in Amarillo.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, the accident happened on I-27 near Georgia Street at around 6 p.m.

A red Ford pickup truck was traveling northbound when it changed lanes and struck a black GMC SUV traveling northbound.

The SUV struck a concrete median and came to rest in the grassy median.

The pickup truck overturned and ejected three people, including a child.

Alma Rivas was pronounced dead at the scene.

The child was transported to the hospital and later succumbed to their injuries.

The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the collision.
