31-Year-Old Baytown Man Dies in Highway 73 Collision with Truck Tractor in Jefferson County
Jefferson County, TX – A 31-year-old Baytown man was killed and a truck driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on State Highway 73 in Jefferson County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 4:35 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, along State Highway 73 west of the Taylor Bayou Bridge.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 2023 Autocar truck tractor, driven by 26-year-old David Vasquez Jr. of San Juan, entered the highway after failing to yield the right-of-way. The truck was then rear-ended by a 2014 Honda driven by the Baytown man.
The Honda driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.
Vasquez suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to The Medical Center of Southeast Texas for treatment.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
