Burl Trotter and Sammy Zapata Killed in Lubbock County Crash at FM 179 and FM 2641

Lubbock County, TX. – 87-year-old Burl Trotter and 19-year-old Sammy Zapata have been identified as the two men who died in a two-vehicle crash on Friday afternoon in Lubbock County

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred at the intersection of FM 179 and FM 2641 at around 4 p.m.

Sammy Zapata was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry eastbound on FM 2641 when the he reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and struck a 2022 Dodge Ram pickup traveling northbound on FM 179.

Burl Trotter was driving the Dodge Ram and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sammy Zapata was taken to University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

More details on the crash were not provided.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
