Gilbert Olivarez Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash on US 385 in Deaf Smith County

Deaf Smith County, TX – A man was killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle collision in Deaf Smith County about eight miles north of Hereford, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal collision happened around 8:34 a.m. on June 11 on US 385.

DPS said a 2014 Peterbilt truck-tractor towing a semi-trailer was traveling northbound on the highway when it slowed to turn onto a private road.

A northbound 2021 Hyundai Accent failed to control its speed and rear-ended the semi-trailer.

The Hyundai driver, Gilbert Olivarez, 30, of Dimmitt, died at the scene.

The semi driver was uninjured.

The troopers are investigating the accident
