Kelsey Gomez Dies in Head-On Collision with Wrong-Way Driver in Harris County

Harris County, TX – A woman who was killed in a head-on crash that left another driver injured on the Eastex Freeway early Saturday morning has been identified.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office identified the deceased driver as Kelsey Gomez, 27. The wrong-way driver was identified as Alfredo Cartagena. Cartagena was injured in the incident.

The deadly head-on crash occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on August 29 in the 11400 block of Eastex Freeway near Hartwick Road.

According to investigators, Cartagena was driving a Chevrolet Silverado southbound in a northbound main lane of the Eastex Freeway when he collided head-on with a northbound Honda Accord driven by Gomez.

Deputies arriving at the scene immediately began lifesaving measures on Gomez. She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. Cartagena was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators said Cartagena was intoxicated at the time of the collision.

The investigation into the wrong-way collision remains ongoing.
