Lisa Maldonado Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 30 in Mesquite; Khasan Begbaev Arrested

Lisa Maldonado Killed in I-30 Crash

Mesquite, TX – A woman was killed after two vehicles collided in Mesquite early Friday morning, according to the Mesquite Police Department.

Mesquite Police Department identified the deceased driver as Lisa Maldonado, a 33-year-old woman from Garland.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:16 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2026, on the transition ramp from westbound Interstate 30 to northbound Interstate 635 in the 1700 block of Interstate 30.

Police said the Chevrolet Equinox SUV, operated by Maldonado, collided with a Freightliner towing a 53-foot trailer on the transition ramp. The circumstances leading up to the crash were not released. The driver of the Freightliner was identified as 39-year-old Khasan Begbaev of Brooklyn, New York.

Maldonado was transported to an area hospital, where she was declared deceased.  

Begbaev was not injured and remained at the scene. He was later arrested and charged with one count of manslaughter.

Mesquite police responded to the crash and began an investigation. The department's Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.
