Michael Barrera Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on South Central Expressway in Richardson
Richardson, TX – Authorities have identified the man who was killed in a three-vehicle crash on South Central Expressway in Richardson Sunday evening.
The Richardson Police Department identified the deceased as 36-year-old Michael Barrera.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 8:55 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, in the southbound lanes of the 100 block of South Central Expressway.
According to the Richardson Police Department, a Ford pickup truck was heading southbound at a slow speed in the left lane due to a blown tire when it was rear-ended by an Infiniti sedan, operated by Berrera.
Both vehicles stopped in the left lane, and their drivers and a passenger in the Infiniti exited the vehicles.
Moments later, a passing Volkswagen sedan took evasive action to avoid hitting the stopped vehicles. Unfortunately, the Volkswagen struck Barrera, who was standing near the center concrete divider. Barrera suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Volkswagen also struck the Ford pickup and its driver. The Ford driver was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger in the Infiniti and the driver of the Volkswagen were not injured.
The circumstances that led to the initial collision and the subsequent crash remain under investigation.
The Richardson Police Special Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene and is handling the investigation.
