17-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed in South Side Street Racing Crash in San Antonio Identified

San Antonio, TX – A 17-year-old pedestrian who was killed after being struck by a vehicle allegedly involved in a street race on the South Side of San Antonio late Tuesday night has been identified.

Authorities identified the victim as Moncerrat Martinez Maldonado, 17.

The fatal crash occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Southwest Military Drive, near Mango Avenue.

Investigators said the Dodge Charger, driven by 19-year-old Vynzell Edward McGarity, was traveling at a high rate of speed while reportedly racing another vehicle. Police allege McGarity changed lanes before hitting Maldonado.

Maldonado sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

McGarity was taken into custody and has been charged with racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury, and reckless driving.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation by the San Antonio Police Department.
