Oscar Hernandez Sotelo Jr., Lakecha Collins Killed in Lubbock Car Crash on I-27 near 19th Street
Lubbock, TX. – Authorities have identified the victims of a fatal multi-vehicle crash involving a wrong-way driver on Thursday evening in Lubbock.
According to the Lubbock Police Department, the collision occurred in the 6600 block of I-27 near 19th Street at around 7:25 p.m.
Oscar Hernandez Sotelo Jr., 29, was driving a car southbound in the northbound lanes when he crashed into a northbound passenger car driven by 24-year-old Jairon Foster.
The southbound vehicle continued southbound and collided head-on with a pickup truck driven by 28-year-old Alexis Wallace. Both vehicles burst into flames.
Sotelo had two juvenile passengers on board. A 3-year-old child was extricated from the burning vehicle.
Sotelo and his two-year-old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
60-year-old Lakecha Collins was a passenger in Foster’s vehicle and was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Foster sustained serious injuries, while the 3-year-old child suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to UMC.
Wallace and her passenger, 19-year-old Aaliyah Wallace, were taken to Covenant Medical Center with serious injuries.
Police suspect alcohol and speed as factors in the crash.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
