Midland Man Killed in Martin County Wrong-Way Crash on I-20
Martin County, TX – The Midland man who was killed in a wrong-way collision on Friday in Martin County has been identified as Ruben Ramirez Sanchez, 88, according to the Texas DPS.
The deadly collision occurred at about 1:45 p.m. on June 5 on eastbound I-20 at mile marker 154.
DPS said a 2001 Ford Explorer was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the interstate when it crashed head-on into an eastbound 2014 Chevrolet Traverse.
The force of the impact caused the Chevrolet to veer into the center median cable barrier.
An eastbound 2027 International LT62F then hit the Ford.
The driver of an eastbound 1981 Peterbilt 359 saw the accident ahead and took evasive action to avoid a collision, but ended up crashing into the center median.
One of the drivers, Sanchez, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another driver was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
The other two drivers were taken to Martin County Hospital with minor injuries.
The DPS is investigating the collision.
