Hill County, TX – Authorities have identified two people who were killed in a car crash that left two others critically injured on State Highway 171 north of Hillsboro on Saturday night, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on September 5 on SH-171 near County Road 4223.

Authorities said a farm tractor towing equipment was traveling northbound with its lights flashing. According to DPS, a northbound Ford Fiesta passed a pickup truck before moving back into the right lane, where it struck the farm equipment, causing the equipment to detach.

The detached equipment and other objects then became hazards in the roadway. A southbound Chevrolet Traverse and Ford F-150 struck the objects on the roadway.

Reportedly, the F-150 driver and passenger, and a passenger in the Traverse, exited the vehicles and were standing in the roadway when another vehicle struck them.

The driver and the passenger of the Ford F-150, identified as 39-year-old Zachary Barton and 39-year-old Katherine Barton of Arlington, were killed in the collision.

The Ford Fiesta driver and the passenger of the Traverse were critically injured and were hospitalized.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the deadly collision.
