Six people die in multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 20 near Hiram Road in Terrell

Terrell, TX. – At least six people were killed in a collision involving an 18-wheeler on Saturday afternoon in Terrell in Kaufman County.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal collision happened on Interstate 20 near Hiram Road at around 2:40 p.m.
Traffic on I-20 was backed up due to a previous collision when the driver of a red semi-truck reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel and struck a Ford F-150 carrying five occupants.
The impact pushed the semi-truck into two other semi-trucks. One semi-truck jackknifed and struck a Jeep Compass, a Ford Mustang, and a Honda passenger vehicle.
Four occupants of the Ford F-150 and one occupant of the Jeep Compass were pronounced dead at the accident scene.
A fifth occupant of the Ford F-150 was airlifted to a Dallas hospital, where they later died.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, was arrested at the scene and charged with five counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
More details about the accident were not released.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
