The fatal accident happened around 2:13 a.m. on August 2 at the intersection of Elgin and Smith Streets.

Midtown, TX – Two people were killed and another person was arrested on Saturday following a two-car accident in Midtown, according to the authorities.
The fatal accident happened around 2:13 a.m. on August 2 at the intersection of Elgin and Smith Streets.
Authorities said deputies with Harris County Pct. 7 observed a black F-150 hitting multiple cars without stopping in the 2700 block of Smith Street. They tried to stop the truck, but the driver sped away at a high rate of speed, running several red lights. It ran a red light at Elgin and Smith Streets and collided with an eastbound white Lexus.
The impact caused the Lexus to spin out, hit a building, and catch fire.
Both occupants of the Lexus were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not been released.
The suspect, 21-year-old Rene Hernandez, was taken into custody and was charged with two counts of murder. He had a strong alcohol odor and slurred speech when he was being apprehended.
A female passenger in the truck was taken to the hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
The authorities are investigating the accident.
