11-Month-Old Dies Days After Car Crash on SH 89 at US 77 in San Patricio County

San Patricio County, Texas – The 11-month-old baby who was injured Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash in San Patricio County has died, according to the Texas DPS.

The crash happened around 10:00 a.m., May 27, at the intersection of SH 89 and US 77.

DPS said a family was traveling northbound on SH 89 in an Elantra and were turning into a crossover to take the US 77 South entrance ramp. They failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign and the Elantra was struck by a Ford-150 and knocked into the grass on the side of the intersection.

The driver of the Ford F-150, John Honeycutt, 31, of Sinton was transported to Spohn Shoreline for treatment.

Salma Aktar, 33, and her son were trapped in the back seat of the Elantra and were rescued. Aktar was taken to Bay Area Hospital in critical condition. Her 11-month-old son was taken to Driscoll Children’s Hospital in critical condition where he died on Saturday, June 1.

The father, Saiful Amin, 32, was taken to Spohn Shoreline where he was treated for minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
