24-Year-Old Man Critically Injured in San Antonio Pedestrian Accident on Highway 90; Johnny Ruiz Arrested
San Antonio, Texas – A 24-year-old man was critically injured early Monday morning in a hit-and-run accident in San Antonio, according to the police.
The accident occurred around 1:15 a.m., February 5, in the 6500 block of Old Highway 90 West.
Police said the man was walking down the highway when he was struck by a red Smart car driven by Johnny Ruiz Jr., 37.
The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The car fled the scene after the accident. Responding officers found a license plate, a housing for the passenger’s side mirror, and red paint flakes on the road. The vehicle was found parked outside a motel, had damage to its windshield, and had a missing housing for the passenger’s side mirror.
Ruiz told officers a tree had fallen onto his car. He was arrested and is facing a charge of collision involving serious bodily injury.
The police are investigating the crash.
