Bridge City, TX – One person was killed and another was injured following a rear-end collision on FM 1442 in Bridge City Monday night, according to Bridge City Police.
The deadly collision happened at about 9:37 p.m. on January 12 in the 1300 block of Farm-to-Market Road 1442.
Police said 43-year-old Andre Calmelet of Beaumont was driving a 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck eastbound on FM 1442 when he rear-ended a 2025 Tesla operated by a 38-year-old Orange man.

Bridge City Police responded to the scene and found Calmelet’s pickup overturned on the driver’s side in the north ditch along FM 1442 with Calmelet still inside. The officers with the help of bystanders pulled Calmelet out of the overturned vehicle and tried performing CPR on him.
Police said the pickup truck struck a concrete culvert in the ditch.
Unfortunately, Calmelet succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased by Orange County Precinct One Justice of the Peace Hershel Stagne.
The Telsa came to rest in the ditch on the south side of the road. The Teslas driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital.
The incident remains under investigation and no additional information was provided.
