Houston, TX. – 37-year-old Ashley Mae Nelson has been identified as the bicyclist who was fatally struck by a car on Sunday morning in Harris County.

According to the police, the accident happened around 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 6 and Empanada Drive.

Ashley and her husband were riding their bicycles from east to west across the highway when she was hit by a red sedan.

Ashley was killed in the accident.

The driver of the red sedan, 28-year-old Shantia Howar, did not stop to render aid. She was later located and was charged with Failure to Stop and Render Aid.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
