Houston, TX – Two people were killed early Friday morning in a fiery two-vehicle collision in Houston, according to the police.
The fatal collision happened around 1:14 a.m. on October 17 on the Katy Freeway near the Taylor Street exit.
Police said a Tesla was traveling at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended a Nissan.
The Nissan caught fire after the collision, trapping 22-year-old Bianca Romero and her boyfriend, Christian Rangel, inside.
The Tesla then crashed into barriers on both sides of the freeway before it came to a stop.
Romero and Rangel were killed in the accident.
A passenger in the Tesla was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Tesla driver remained at the scene and was charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter.
The collision closed all eastbound lanes of the freeway, and they were reopened around 6:36 a.m.
The police are investigating the accident.
