Denton, TX. – A pedestrian died after being struck by a suspected drunk driver on Saturday, April 12, in Denton.
According to the Denton Police Department, the accident happened around 2 a.m. in the 2300 block of Carril Al Lago Drive.
22-year-old Deepthi Vangavolu and a female pedestrian were walking in the area and were hit by a dark-colored sedan.
Vangavolu was transported to a local hospital where she died three days later.
The second woman was hospitalized with unknown injuries.
The driver, 27-year-old Tyras Batson of Denton, fled the scene but was located and arrested on April 17. He faces charges of collision involving death, tampering with evidence, and collision involving injury.
More details about the accident were not released.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
