Midland, TX — Two people, including an infant, were killed after two vehicles collided on FM 1788 in Midland on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
According to a Department of Public Safety the accident happened at about 3:19 p.m. on October 23 at Farm-to-Market 1788 and County Road 58.
According to DPS, a 2019 Freightliner, operated by James Craig Butler, 61, of Midland, was traveling northbound on FM 1788, when a 2018 Toyota Highlander, driven by Lazaro Rafael Riena Lenus of Odessa, failed to yield at the stop sign at the intesection, and struck the Freightliner.
Two passengers in the Toyota Highlander – 37-year-old Doria Hernandez of Odessa, and an infant – were ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. The two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.
DPS said thh two victims were not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
Butler was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.
The incident remains under investigation.
