According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, two vehicles collided head-on at the intersection of State Highway 56 and County Road 3212 between Windom and Dodd City.
Fannin County, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified two of five people who were killed after two vehicles collided on State Highway 56 near County Road 3212 on October 2, 2024, at 11:26 am.
The DPS identified the victims as Ernestina Castillo-Alfaro, 30, of Bonham, and 26-year-old Rosa Trochez-Montenegro.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle, operated by Alfaro, traveling eastbound and a second vehicle was heading westbound on SH-56.
DPS said Alfaro, who was traveling at an unsafe speed, lost control on a curve, drove into the opposite traffic lane, and struck the second vehicle.
Alfaro and his four passengers, including Rosa Montenegro, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.

Fannin County, TX – As many as five people are dead and two others are injured following a two-vehicle traffic collision at an intersection in Fannin County Wednesday afternoon, according to a police report.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, two vehicles collided head-on at the intersection of State Highway 56 and County Road 3212 between Windom and Dodd City.

DPS said five people were killed in the collision. The names of the victims were not immediately released.
Two other people were hospitalized with unknown injuries.
