Ector County, TX. – An Odessa man was killed in a head-on collision that left another seriously injured on Tuesday morning in Ector County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal accident happened around 6:20 a.m. at West University Boulevard and Mercedes Avenue.

22-year-old Roberto Hernandez of Weslaco was driving a GMC Sierra eastbound on University and towing another vehicle behind him.

At the same time, a BMW operated by 30-year-old Laura Ivonne Galindo, of Midland, and a Toyota Rav4, driven by 60-year-old Gregory Wayne Gardner, of Odessa, were traveling westbound.

For unknown reasons, Hernandez veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with the BMW.

The vehicle that was being towed collided with the RAV4.

Gardner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Galindo also sustained serious injuries and was transported to Odessa Medical Center in critical condition.

More details about the accident were not available.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
