India Watson Killed in San Antonio Pedestrian Accident on S. W.W. White Road

San Antonio, Texas – According to the police, a pedestrian was fatally hit by a San Antonio police officer Friday night during a police chase in San Antonio’s East Side.

The accident happened on January 26, in the 300 block of S. W.W. White Road near Mercury Drive.

Police said two suspects in dark hoodies stole a woman’s vehicle and purse at gunpoint around 8:00 p.m., on Friday, in the 200 block of E. Martin Street downtown.

Officers tracked the vehicle via GPS, but the driver fled and eluded police. The car was re-located hours later, leading to another chase.

A patrol car chasing the suspect struck India Watson, 47, who was crossing S. W.W. White Road. Watson was pronounced dead at the scene. A GoFundMe page has been set up to cover expenses for Watson’s body to be transported back to New Orleans so she can be laid to rest with her mother.

The suspect, Rene Camarillo, 17, later abandoned the vehicle, fled on foot, and was captured by authorities. He has been charged with evading arrest with a vehicle, aggravated robbery, and murder.

The involved officer will be placed on administrative duty until further notice.

An investigation into the crash is underway.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A.
