Juan Hernandez Dies in Suspected DWI Collision on East Freeway in Channelview

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place at about 2:30 a.m. in the 16300 block of East Freeway.

East Harris County, TX – Juan Hernandez has been identified as the man who died after crashing into a wrecker and a police vehicle as deputies investigated an initial collision on Interstate 10 in Channelview, according to Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said deputies were investigating an initial fatal collision in the 16300 block of East Freeway at about 2:30 a.m. when a silver Cadillac ATS, operated by Hernandez and traveling westbound at a high rate of speed, slammed into a wrecker and a patrol vehicle.

Hernandez was pulled out of his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Hernandez was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The deputies found several open alcoholic beverage containers inside his vehicle.

Two wrecker operators were hospitalized with minor injuries.

A deputy was injured while pulling Hernandez out of the vehicle.

East Harris County, TX – Two people are dead and three others, including a sheriff’s deputy, were injured in a series of collisions that happened in Channelview on Sunday morning.

The deputies reported that a silver Cadillac ATS traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when it slammed into a wrecker and a patrol vehicle at the scene of an initial fatal collision.

The driver of the Cadillac was pulled out of his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased driver is suspected to have been driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Two wrecker operators were transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

A deputy was also hurt while pulling the driver from the car but was not taken to hospital.

The authorities reported that one person was killed initial collision, but did not provide more details regarding the collision.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
