Houston, TX – One person is dead and another is hospitalized following a traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle in Houston early Saturday morning.

The deadly accident occurred at about 3 a.m. on northbound Fry Road, just north of Interstate 10 in West Houston.

The driver, 34-year-old Trymeshia Smith, has been arrested and charged with DWI in connection with the crash.

HPD said two motorcycles were traveling side by side northbound on Fry Road, just north of I-10. At the same time, a Chevrolet Malibu, operated by Trymeshia Smith, was stopped facing southbound in the northbound turn lane.

For some reason, Smith made a left turn in front of the two motorcycles, police said.

Reportedly, the motorcyclist on the left side of the lane managed to swerve and avoid colliding with the Malibu.

The motorcycle on the right side of the lane, operated by Kade Sorrell, was unable to swerve and collided with the Malibu.

Kade sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized. His passenger, identified as Katelyn Sorrell, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said both Kade and Katelyn were ejected from the motorcycle.

Police said Smith was arrested on suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated.

No additional information was provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
