Lubbock County – A 35-year-old man is dead following a traffic collision involving a car and a tractor-trailer at an intersection in Lubbock County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The deadly incident was reported around 5:09 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 84 and County Road 1400.
According to the DPS, an initial investigation revealed that a tractor-trailer was traveling southbound on a curved portion of Highway 84 near the intersection with CR 1400.
The tractor-trailer then traveled to the center median and crossed into the southbound main lane of the highway where it was struck by a southbound 2014 Hyundai Accent, operated by Kevin Ortiz, 64, of Bovina.
According to the DPS, Ortiz succumbed to the injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt.
The incident remains under investigation.
