Houston, TX – The HPD is investigating a deadly auto-pedestrian collision that claimed the life of a 68-year-old man on Sunnyside Street in Houston, Thursday morning.
The accident happened at about 7:30 a.m. today, Feb. 6 in the 800 block of Sunnyside Street.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross said a 20-year-old driver of a black Honda Accord was heading east on Sunnyside Street when the driver failed to maintain a single lane and struck a pedestrian and then a fence.
The pedestrian, a 68-year-old man, was severely injured and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
HPD officials said after further investigation, it was determined that the man was walking on the side of the street due to a lack of sidewalks.
Police said the driver of the Honda was not impaired at the time of the collision.
The identity of the victim was not released pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The incident remains under investigation.
